The hours of acceptance
Du'a is answered at every hour; these are the ones the Sunnah singles out.
- Between the adhan and the iqamah of any prayer, "a du'a made then is not rejected" (Abu Dawud 521, sahih).
- In prostration: "the nearest a servant comes to his Lord is when he is prostrating, so make much supplication" (Muslim 482).
- After Fajr, seated in remembrance until the sun is up, 04:50 to 05:59, then two rak'ahs (Tirmidhi 586, hasan; Zubair Ali Zai grades it weak).
- At Maghrib, the moment of breaking a fast, 18:05 (Tirmidhi 3598 and Ibn Majah 1753; the graders split, and both sides are printed).
- When rain falls; when travelling; when ill or wronged.
Voluntary prayer is not offered at sunrise (05:59 and about fifteen minutes after), at the zenith just before Dhuhr, and at sunset just before Maghrib (Muslim 831). Du'a and dhikr are always open.
