Al-Muddaththir سُورَةُ المُدَّثِّرِ
The Cloaked One
Previous: Al-Muzzammil · Next: Al-Qiyaama · All surahs
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِIn the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
O thou enveloped in thy cloak,
74:1 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 575 · tafsir at quran.com
Thy Lord magnify,
74:3 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 575 · tafsir at quran.com
Thy raiment purify,
74:4 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 575 · tafsir at quran.com
Pollution shun!
74:5 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 575 · tafsir at quran.com
And show not favour, seeking wordly gain!
74:6 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 575 · tafsir at quran.com
For the sake of thy Lord, be patient!
74:7 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 575 · tafsir at quran.com
For when the trumpet shall sound,
74:8 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 575 · tafsir at quran.com
Surely that day will be a day of anguish,
74:9 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 575 · tafsir at quran.com
Not of ease, for disbelievers.
74:10 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 575 · tafsir at quran.com
Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely,
74:11 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 575 · tafsir at quran.com
And then bestowed upon him ample means,
74:12 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 575 · tafsir at quran.com
And sons abiding in his presence
74:13 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 575 · tafsir at quran.com
And made (life) smooth for him.
74:14 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 575 · tafsir at quran.com
Yet he desireth that I should give more.
74:15 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 575 · tafsir at quran.com
Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations.
74:16 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 575 · tafsir at quran.com
On him I shall impose a fearful doom.
74:17 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 575 · tafsir at quran.com
For lo! he did consider; then he planned -
74:18 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
(Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned!
74:19 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! -
74:20 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
Then frowned he and showed displeasure.
74:22 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
Then turned he away in pride
74:23 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
And said: This is naught else than magic from of old;
74:24 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
This is naught else than speech of mortal man.
74:25 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
Him shall I fling unto the burning.
74:26 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
- Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! -
74:27 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
It leaveth naught; it spareth naught
74:28 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
It shrivelleth the man.
74:29 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
Above it are nineteen.
74:30 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals.
74:31 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
Nay, by the Moon
74:32 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
And the night when it withdraweth
74:33 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
And the dawn when it shineth forth,
74:34 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents)
74:35 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
As a warning unto men,
74:36 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
Unto him of you who will advance or hang back.
74:37 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds;
74:38 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
Save those who will stand on the right hand.
74:39 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
In gardens they will ask one another
74:40 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
Concerning the guilty:
74:41 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
What hath brought you to this burning?
74:42 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
They will answer: We were not of those who prayed
74:43 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
Nor did we feed the wretched.
74:44 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
We used to wade (in vain dispute) with (all) waders,
74:45 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
And we used to deny the Day of Judgment,
74:46 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
Till the Inevitable came unto us.
74:47 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 576 · tafsir at quran.com
The mediation of no mediators will avail them then.
74:48 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 577 · tafsir at quran.com
Why now turn they away from the Admonishment,
74:49 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 577 · tafsir at quran.com
As they were frightened asses
74:50 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 577 · tafsir at quran.com
Fleeing from a lion?
74:51 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 577 · tafsir at quran.com
Nay, but everyone of them desireth that he should be given open pages (from Allah).
74:52 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 577 · tafsir at quran.com
Nay, verily. They fear not the Hereafter.
74:53 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 577 · tafsir at quran.com
Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment.
74:54 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 577 · tafsir at quran.com
So whosoever will may heed.
74:55 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 577 · tafsir at quran.com
And they will not heed unless Allah willeth (it). He is the fount of fear. He is the fount of Mercy.
74:56 · Al-Muddaththir · juz 29 · page 577 · tafsir at quran.com
