Al-Alaq سُورَةُ العَلَقِ

The Clot

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

ٱقْرَأْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ﴿1﴾

Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth,

خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ ﴿2﴾

Createth man from a clot.

ٱقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْأَكْرَمُ ﴿3﴾

Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous,

ٱلَّذِى عَلَّمَ بِٱلْقَلَمِ ﴿4﴾

Who teacheth by the pen,

عَلَّمَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ ﴿5﴾

Teacheth man that which he knew not.

كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ لَيَطْغَىٰٓ ﴿6﴾

Nay, but verily man is rebellious

أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰٓ ﴿7﴾

That he thinketh himself independent!

إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجْعَىٰٓ ﴿8﴾

Lo! unto thy Lord is the return.

أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يَنْهَىٰ ﴿9﴾

Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth

عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ ﴿10﴾

A slave when he prayeth?

96:10 · Al-Alaq · juz 30 · page 597 · tafsir at quran.com

أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ ﴿11﴾

Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah)

أَوْ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقْوَىٰٓ ﴿12﴾

Or enjoineth piety?

أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ ﴿13﴾

Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward?

أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ ﴿14﴾

Is he then unaware that Allah seeth?

كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ ﴿15﴾

Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock -

نَاصِيَةٍۢ كَٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍۢ ﴿16﴾

The lying, sinful forelock -

فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُۥ ﴿17﴾

Then let him call upon his henchmen!

سَنَدْعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ ﴿18﴾

We will call the guards of hell.

كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَٱسْجُدْ وَٱقْتَرِب ۩ ﴿19﴾

Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah).
